Kamili Designs, Kenya
Located in Karen, adjacent to Kenya’s thriving capital city Nairobi, Kamili Designs produces a range of hand and screen painted accessories for the house. Produce include cushion covers, tea cosies, oven gloves, aprons, lampshades and throws.
The exciting Kamili Designs range of produce.Fourteen full time employees produce screen printed goods using Kenyan cotton. The process involves designing a screen using photographic paper. The screen is then superimposed onto a muslin material which allows paint through onto the cotton below.
The cotton is initially painted using rollers which provides a three dimensional affect. The screen is then laid on top of the painted cotton and a selection of colourful paints is applied.
Painted cotton drying prior to final screen printing.Finally drying takes place and the completed material is heated on a roller to prevent running during the washing process. Cutting and stitching is then completed and the products are sold to high quality lodges around Kenya as well as on The Africa House website.
The 14 employees work in beautiful gardens in Karen on various phases of the production process. Through this employment at Kamili Designs it is projected that over 60 dependents and family members benefit directly from the salaries paid.
